It conducts further discussion on the content to grasp various characteristics of Lan’s work. First, on the part of "detective and justice ", the thesis investigates how Lan characterizes the detective Dr. Qin with his specificity and unique charm by discussing the definitions and classifications of detective fictions. The thesis also dissects that in the process of uncovering the truth, the detective’s performance of justice exists not only in the surface of light, but in the back of shadow. Secondly, on the part of " motivation of social reality ", the thesis classifies the motives in the text into three categories which are benefits, passions and belief crimes, exploring the realism of criminal motives and human-related issues behind motives. Finally, through the "the space and puzzle", the thesis discusses the spaces and tricks in Lan’s work on physical and psychological ways. It further explores how Lan presents impossible crime scenes and the criminals thoughts behind the tricks. And besides them, how he presents the space of impossible crime scene. What’s more, the thesis tries to find out the true meaning of life that Lan wants to express but hides in the ruse. In addition to exploring the characteristics of Lan’s work, the thesis tries to explore the meaning and qualities of Taiwan detective fictions and the way how Taiwan detective literature shapes its own cultural image after transplanting the writing styles of Euro-American and Japanese detective fictions. On the other hand, this thesis tries to present Lan’s efforts on localizing his detective work through concrete, complete and profound discussion. It further investigates whether such detective novels can get rid of the great influence of foreign cultures and present “Taiwan style” of detective novels. Through studying Lan’s work, we can continue to discuss the issue of Taiwan detective fictions. This thesis studies Lan Xiao’s detective fictions of Dr. Qin series, trying to explore the features and the whole picture of Lan Xiao’s detective work with analyzing important factors as detective, motivation and tricks.
