In addition to the cleanliness of the cleanroom, the production process also requires the use of automatic material handling system to improve production efficiency. With the evolution of TFT-LCD manufacturing and limited by factors such as cost, fab size, cassette weight, process technology and other factors, the efficiency of automatic material handling system requires more improvements and more flexibility to fit with the different modes of production or process. Automatic material handling system for TFT-LCD is complex. Materials need to be transferred all the time just like computer network. Therefore, this thesis applies the theory of the shortest path to study how to improve the transportation efficiency of automatic material handling system. The experiments are based on the transportation capacity of the real automatic material handling system. Using hypothesis testing to analyze the data before and after shortest path selection, the experiment results are that average transportation efficiency is improved by 3% and material transfer time is reduced by 36%.
