However, nuclear safety and nuclear waste issues come along with the benefits of "low-carbon emissions," "cheap," and "energy supply stability". Consequently, it''s an extremely controversial issue worldwide. The proportion of nuclear power generation come up to 20% in all Taiwan’s power generation. Two major political parties are sharply divided on a pro-nuclear and anti-nuclear issues. The purpose of this study is to explore whether or not the Taiwanese attitude to nuclear power generation be influenced by their political preference. I use Ordered Probit and Binary Probit model as the econometric tools. The result shows that people’s political preference does affect the attitude to nuclear power generation. In addition, significant explanatory variables include “Worried about nuclear waste or nuclear fuel radiation hazard,” “Worried about the nuclear disaster in Taiwan to affect their own safety,” “Nuclear power can supply longer is important,” “Living cities,” and “Age.” Therefore, Taiwanese who had tendencies to the KMT support nuclear power generation, and Taiwanese who had tendencies to the DPP against nuclear power generation. Public opinion has huge impact on Democratic country’s policy direction. Because nuclear power generation policy has huge connection with national security and the general public’s welfare, the government should promote the information of nuclear power generation objectively and Taiwanese should think nuclear power generation issues in an objective point of view. Therefore, it will make public opinion have it’s influence on improving people’s welfare. Wei-Chun Tseng 曾偉君 2012 學位論文 ; thesis 55 zh-TW
