Abstract
This study examined stress and quality of life in primary caregivers of children with severely intellectual disabilities. There were 276 samples which were from the primary caregivers of children with severely intellectual disabilities of certain institution of disabilities in Pingtung. The research method of this study was survey by questionnaire or telephone interview. There were 202 valid questionnaires, which made the responsive rate was 73.2%. The data were analyzed by descriptive analysis, t-test, One Way ANOVA, Two Way ANOVA and stepwise multiple regression analysis.
The results explored: 1. The overall score of stress was belong to medium level.2. The overall QOL in which physical health domain had the highest, whereas the environmental domain got the lowest. 3. The age of the primary caregivers in more than 60 years of age, the relationship with the disabilities mostly for the other (grandparents), had religious beliefs, level of education for the elementary school, below average daily care time (accompanied by time) for 9-12 hours, status of work, the state of the economy for less than $ 20,000 and no social support in the overall pressure was larger. 4. The significant of QOL were as follows: primary caregivers of age, educational levels, religious belief, caring time, economic situation, and social support. 5. Primary caregivers had less pressure in the quality of life was better.
6. Attribute of children with severely intellectual disabilities and personality of primary caregivers to pressure and QOL had interaction.
