碩士 === 明道大學 === 中國文學學系(碩士班) === 100 === The purpose of this research is to explore the gender consciousness in the Romance of the West Chamber form narrative. In this research, Feminism, Feminist narratology and Postclassical narrative theory.It is a text of young lovers, Yingying and Zhang Sheng, consummating their love without parental approval. This study adopts Narrative Analysis method, viewing narratives as social products that are produced by people in the context of specific social, historical and cultural locations. Three major conclusions will be addressed as follows. First, this love comedy offers a radical gender consciousness.Second, the traditional norms about gender relations needed some elastic space.Third, both the young lovers in this story are behaved in a brash way to have sexual closeness. Forth, for the pursuit of love, Yingying is implicit at the eginning. However, while she falls in love she takes bold actions regardless of etiquette. Finally, Yingying feels afraid of being discarded because she entrust him with her chastity. She needs a man to attach to guarantee lifelong happiness.
