Description
Summary:碩士 === 銘傳大學 === 資訊傳播工程學系碩士班 === 100 === With the advance of science and technology, many kinds of home appliances are used at home. Each home appliance is usually with a particular remote control, and the remote control devices are generally complex in use, especially for senior citizen. This research aims at developing a universal remote control for home appliances based on computer vision technology to solve the above problem. We have developed two kinds of remote control systems. The first system consists of three major units: a paper control panel, a webcam worn on the user’s chest, and a laptop computer. The user points his finger tip to a virtual button on the paper panel to select a specific appliance and control function. The user’s hand image is captured by the webcam and the virtual button pointed by the fingertip is detected by computer vision techniques. Then a specific infrared code is emitted to control the corresponding appliance for a specific function. In the second system, no control panel is required. The user controls the home appliances with a simple hand gesture. The user’s hand image is captured by the webcam worn on the user’s chest. The system tracks the hand position using a modified Camshift algorithm, and then identifies the hand gesture to generate various control functions. Unlike the existing hand gesture remote control, the proposed two systems do not change any part of the existing home appliances.
