After the 911 incident, American news media tended to represent the Middle East in a negative way, also full of Orientalism. Stories about the Middle East were often linked with terrorism, violence, and hatred. Since bin Laden is dead, the greatest enemy of the U.S. is gone, which means there is no need for the U.S. to boost the war towards the Middle East by hurting its image. Under this circumstance, will the news media report the Middle East in a different way? This is the main question this thesis wants to answer. This research project analyses news stories which are related to the Middle East, Islam , and Osama bin Laden from the following newspapers, which are The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and USA Today.
