With the increasingly fierce global competition, every company and organization regards the performance of group or individuals as the key to future development. Only those who pay attention to performance management can really obtain competitiveness. The knowledge of one’s basic personality is the foundation of human resource management, therefore how to analyze and predict personality traits, and further manage them is the primary issue of the effective use of human resource. This study was carried out through interview method. It aims to explore the relationship between interior designers’ personality traits and their design performance. It hopes that the results of this study can provide advices for designers and design companies for their reference in management, and can serve as an important reference for the design industry on the personnel recrument and management in practice. The results show that independent challenging is the most important personality trait for interior designers ; the design performance of interior designers can be assessed by the following five items : (1) the process of design project; (2) customer’s satisfaction for the design project; (3) the frequency and ranges of the design changes; (4) the quality of design project; (5) the benefits of design project. The independent challenging, enthusiasm and flexibility traits have significantly positive effects on personal design performance and organizational design performance. However, the originality, smartability, and intellectual curiosity traits have a significantly positive correlation only with the personal design performance, not with the organizational design performance. Furthermore, the personality traits of interior designers have a certain degree of prediction power on design performance, and the prediction power on personal design performance is higher than that on organizational design performance.
