Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立高雄應用科技大學 === 觀光與餐旅管理系 === 100 === Through the experiences of school group tours and family travel, some teenagers invite peers or go alone somewhere away from their life circles for independent traveling. Sometimes they wander in strange lands observing the local conditions and customs, and sometimes they just stay alone trying to find inner peace. All they have experienced in the fantastic trips local people, activities, and everything is like a good book, guiding people's hearts and nourishing each soul eager for freedom. In the study, semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted to elicit 19 teenagers' independent traveling experiences. Their motivation for independent traveling and traveling process were emphasized. Based on self-determination theory, experiential learning, and characteristics of youth development theory, the study probed into teenagers' travel motivation, travel experiences, as well as self-reflection before, during, and after their first independent traveling respectively. It is found in the study that motivated to travel, teenagers get their pre-travel preparations started with assessment of travel risks and self-efficiency through self-determination. In planning stage, parents' opinions play a critical role in whether to go on a trip or not. With access to travel information, a fair supply of money to cover the trip, and travel companions, teenagers can start their independent traveling. On the journey, adventure experiences like accidents, setbacks, contacting with strangers help teenagers engage themselves in self-reflection and meanwhile gain peak experiences through strong friendship bonds, broadened horizon, and learning to be independent. After the trip, teenagers know more about their own personality, merits and drawbacks, career planning, and values.
