Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立高雄應用科技大學 === 土木工程與防災科技研究所 === 100 === The objective of this research is to propose a decent Enterprise Resource Planning System (ERP) implementation model for firms in the construction industry. The construction industry is a leading industry with an immense industrial structure, long project time frame, and higher capital risk when compared to other industries. Consequently, it has numerous disadvantageous elements during the production process in comparison with the conventional manufacturing industry. Through technological advancements, being able to obtain and utilize real-time information has become the source of enhancing industry competitiveness. Likewise, the traditional construction industry is also under pressure from other competitors in the industry. Although large construction firms possess abundant capital to develop and implement the ERP system, small to medium construction firms that constitute 95% of the industry do not have such resources. Furthermore, software suites available on the market are targeted at conventional manufacturers and are unable to be used in the production process in the construction industry. The study conducted a review on ERP implementation related literature to determine the key elements of implementing the system in an enterprise. In addition, it also analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of the current construction firms, as well as the expected benefits of implementing ERP. In terms of company operations, D firm is used as the study subject to ascertain the thinking and techniques required by a construction firm for implementing ERP. In terms of employee usage, the questionnaire survey method was adopted to interview the employees of D firm, so as to further assess their adaptability towards the ERP system and evaluate its performance. Implementing the ERP system involves more than the procurement of hardware and software, the study results reveal that the ERP system helps to improve the firm's competitiveness, while the questionnaire survey also indicates that the ERP system effectively enhances the employees' work efficiency. However, multiple factors such as the pre-implementation planning, analysis and requirement confirmation, as well as a good implementation consultation team, new system and cooperation from the firm all contribute to the success or failure of the implementation. Prior to implementation, the firm must be fully prepared and implement the system in a gradual manner in order to avoid yielding a less than satisfactory performance.
