After the semi-structural in-depth interviews with 4 male cat owners experienced the death of cat over 6 months, the researcher analyzed the data with grounded theory approach as a reference. The findings of this study are shown as fallow: I.In the beginning stage: 2 negative attitudes (doubt on keeping and cats’ characters) toward cats the participants had hold were affected by family experience, and then changed by the significant others and actual contact. II.In the developmental stage: 3 positive factors (pitiable kitten, breed and experience of upbringing) trigger the participants’ care to cat; 4 factors (cat’s characters, cat’s voluntariness, reciprocal behaviors and talking to cat) make the relationship deep and intimate; 4 kinds of daily life interactions (greeting, autonomy from each other, respect and expressing emotion to cat) and 5 kinds of affectionate behaviors (sleeping together, playing, etc.); 3 acquisitions (tender-hearted image, peer’s interaction and family interaction ) and 2 inconveniences (environmental and timing problem) brought by petting a cat; and the bond was gradually established. III.In the ending stage : the experience of the participants when the cat suffered from disease and then passed away; 2 ways (social support and attention shifting) to cope the loss; the viewpoint of life and death the participants hold; 3 ways to cherish the memory of the bond (thankful greeting、memorial imagination and memento) and 3 kinds of reflection after the end of the bond (about human animal bond、responsibility and life-educational thinking).
