Biometric technology has been widely used in all kinds of areas of identification. For example, the international airport in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, has enabled the high-tech iris recognition system to authenticate passenger identity and has also become the first International Airport of the world that uses iris recognition system. The iris recognition system uses a camera to take your iris image through non-contact acquisition. The characteristic of the iris is then converted into an iris code and this code template is saved and used for further recognition process. Iris recognition has been studied many years, but the calculation of those methods is extremely complex and the related cost is also high. This paper uses local binary pattern in converting the iris pattern. Because the method has the advantage of regional characteristics in two-dimension. It is not affected by shadows and is suitable to be used in a real-time system. Iris feature is calculated according to the characteristic of iris image by different weight. It really improves the recognition rate of the iris recognition system.
