The major advantage of a variable acceptance sampling plan is that a variable acceptance sampling plan which provides the same protection as an attribute acceptance sampling plan would require the less sample size. Particularly, when the testing is destructive or costly, a variable acceptance sampling plan is more suitable. Although many papers have studied the variable acceptance sampling plan, few papers focus on the research in view of quality costs. In this paper, an economic design of variable sampling plan based on the mean and standard deviation is proposed to minimize the total quality costs of one lot. In addition, sensitivity analysis will be executed to investigate the behavior of the relevant parameters against total quality costs. Finally, one example is taken to illustrate how to implement the proposed methodology.
