Summary:碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 教育領導與發展研究所 === 101 === With the trend of globalization and educational changes all over the world, higher education institutions will attract students with various kinds of backgrounds, at the same time, faculty members need to adjust their traditional attitudes and roles in having a multicultural class. Globalization is reshaping the core values of institutions of higher education through high technology and market forces. Therefore, globalization has made universities and colleges face a lot of challenges and encounter cultural diversities. To respond this trend, higher education institutions developed a number of internationalization strategies. In particular, faculty members pay more and more attention to teaching and research in international perspectives. The purpose of this study is to analyze faculty’s awareness of globalization and their attitude towards internationalization of faculty development. The study adopts a qualitative method and inviting fifteen interviewees in Fu Jen Catholic University to share their views on the issue. Major findings of the study are as follows: 1. Even though faculty members hold different viewpoints towards globalization, they still believe that being open-minded and communicating with other nations will enhance cultural exchanges globally. In addition, the government should bridge the local context with the global setting in a fair module of resources allocation. 2. In order to respond the global trend, faculty members are encouraged to offer English taught courses, contribute papers to international journals and integrate multicultural elements into curriculum. However, the faculty members in science field have more positive attitudes towards the internationalization strategies than those from social science and humanities. 3. Faculty members tend to be positive on the international lectures, programs or activities offered by the institution. However, time arrangement, confidence in English abilities, characters and academic backgrounds are the big challenges for faculty members to take part in the programs or activities. 4. Faculty’s international capacity and perspectives need to be developed according to their needs in teaching and research.
