A survey was conducted through 202 valid questionnaires on the male and female gymnasts in the whole grades of elementary school in 2011 National Gymnastics Tournament. The descriptive statistics analysis, independent t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Scheffe’s method and Pearson’s Product-Moment Correlation were ues to analyze these data. The results of this study were as follows: 1. The participation motivation of the gymnasts in the elementary school included: sports development, environmental impact, satisfaction requirement and significant others. The barrier factors included: external environment, competent capability, inherent psychology, significant others. 2. The participation motivation of the gymnasts in the elementary school ranged from high level to low level were: sports development, significant others, satisfaction requirement and environmental impact. 3. The gymnasts of different gender had significant differences in sports development, environmental impact, satisfaction requirement and significant others when comparing the differences of the participation motivation. The gymnasts of different grades were significant differences in sports development, environmental impact, satisfaction requirement and significant others. The gymnasts who joined the gymnastic teams with different seniority were significant differences in sports development and significant others. The gymnasts who had different training hours per week were significant differences in sports development, environmental impact, satisfaction requirement and significant others. The gymnasts with greatest performances were significant differences in sports development and significant others. 4. The barrier factors on the gymnasts in the elementary school ranged from high level to low level were satisfaction requirement, inherent psychology, significant others and external environment. 5. The significant differences in comparison with the barrier factors among the gymnasts of different gender included external environment, satisfaction requirement, inherent psychology and significant others. The gymnasts of different grades were significant differences in external environment, satisfaction requirement, inherent psychology and significant others. The gymnasts who joined the gymnastic teams with different seniority were significant differences in external environment, satisfied requirement and significant others. The gymnasts who had different training hours per week were significant differences in sports development, environmental impact, satisfaction requirement and significant others. The gymnasts with greatest performances were significant differences in satisfaction requirement, inherent psychology and significant others. 6. There was a significantly negative correlation between the participation motivation and barrier factors of the gymnasts in the elementary school.
