Data in this study came from individuals, aged 65 and above listed in 2005 Taiwan National Health Interview Survey Database (NHISD). The variables included personal backgrounds, mental-physical conditions, health behaviors and medical visit patterns. After the data were analyzed via frequency distribution, descriptive statistics, cluster analysis, association analysis, Chi-square Automatic Interaction Detection (CHAID) and Classification and Regression Trees (CART), the results are as followed:The priorities for medical visit patterns of Taiwan elderly people are emergency service, hospitalization service, Western medical service and dental service provided by national health insurance system. Chinese medical service and Folk therapy are mainly used to relieve general aching, and different personal backgrounds would result in different medical visit patterns among elderly people. The group of younger with higher proportions in commercial insurance mostly adopts medical visit patterns of Western medical service combined with Chinese medical service or Folk therapy. Personal backgrounds will moderate the impacts between mental-physical conditions and health behaviors on medical visit patterns. In addition, the impact of mental-physical conditions is much greater than that of health behaviors with number of diseases on medical visit patterns the greatest in any personal backgrounds.
