碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 社會學系碩士班 === 100 === This research focuses on the structural determinants of the global diffusion of international nongovernmental organizations to address this gap in the literature. By using three social change theories(Modernization Theory、Dependency ／World systems Theory、ecological evolutionary theory) and developmental state theory, this study points democracy development and globalization to be the two competing intervening variable leading to the diffusion of international nongovernmental organizations. This study uses cross-national study method to collect data. Lagged Cross-sectional analysis and panel regression methods were used for data analysis. The results show that, democracy development and globalization are partially account for the level of INGO diffusion, while mostly explain the change in INGO diffusion, with globalization showing a stronger intervening effect. This study makes some contributions by : (1) providing a new research agenda studying international nongovernmental organizations; (2) using an integrated theoretical framework for the analysis of the diffusion of international nongovernmental organizations; (3) extending sociological perspective to the study of international nongovernmental organizations; (4) using democracy and globalization as two competing intervening variable for accounting for the diffusion of international nongovernmental organizations.
