Many international organization and government formulate criterions for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Nowadays, environmental and human right issues are important. Public pay attention to the conduct which corporation shave in the environmental management or human right. For example, the Nestle disturbance and Home Depot excessive logging in the late nineteenth century cause the boycott from government and public. In recent years, due to the climate change and the lack of natural resources, there is a huge focus on corporations’ environmental destruction for earning profits. Kotchen and Moon (2007) propose the concept of Corporate Social Irresponsibility (CSI). They mentioned that corporate engage in corporate social responsibility in order to offset corporate social irresponsibility. That is, when corporate do more “harm”, they also do more “good.” The corporate practice of highlighting small environmental improvements and achievements to mask more serious environmental problems, they called it “green washing.”(Chatterji and Listokin, 2007) For instance, only months before filing for bankruptcy, Enron was still being touted by Fortune as one of the nation’s most admired companies. Shell from sinking a decommissioned floating oil storage facility in the North Sea, sparked a rash of public protests and boycotts from Greenpeace members, now become one of the green enterprises. In the past, Nike and Gap called “Sweat Factory”, now human rights groups hailed them as a resounding success. The purpose of this research intends to show the relationship between environmental management and corporate social irresponsibility. Our key variables on CSR and CSI are based on the KLD, using a 6-year panel dataset on nearly 3,000 publicly traded companies from S&P、Domini400…etc. This study uses the panel data from 2003 to 2008 and adopts Ordinary Least Squares (OLS), Fixed Effect Model (FEM), Random Effect Model (REM) and System Generalized Method of Moments (System GMM) method in order to find the relationship between environmental management and corporate social irresponsibility. The result shows that there are significantly positive relationship between environmental management and corporate social irresponsibility. Jui-Ling Hsu 徐瑞玲 2012 學位論文 ; thesis 109 zh-TW
