If the resource of volunteers can be well utilized, the government and related organizations can find assistance in their environmental protection work from volunteer manpower and material resources. This research examines the environmental volunteers from colleges and universities in Taichung, Taiwan, by exploring relevant literature and theories, as well as the results from questionnaires, in order to understand the correlation and possible differences between their motivations for participation, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment. According to the major findings, the following conclusions can be made: 1. The environmental volunteers of Taichung’s colleges and universities exhibit homogeneity in certain years of volunteer service. 2. The volunteers reveal a high level of similarity in participation motivation, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment. 3. The job satisfaction and organizational commitment of thevolunteers is affected by their age, marital status, education level,occupation, and years of volunteer service; it is not, however,affected by sex. 4. Job satisfaction and organizational commitment show a significantpositive correlation. 5. The high level of agreement in the entire aspect of participation motivation, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment illustrates that the volunteers have already fully and comprehensively considered environmental volunteer service. Following the results of this research, this study makes the following propositions: Regarding the development of volunteer organizations or volunteer utilization organizations, this study suggests the establishment of an environmental volunteer e-management platform and resource database to effectively store volunteer human resources and integrate volunteer organizations’ manpower. Organizations that are added to the platform can utilize its human resource interchange and support system, quickly responding to the needs of organizations that require volunteer manpower, revitalizing and enhancing the utilization of volunteers. Some suggestions for further research include: 1. The research subject can be expanded to include the environmental volunteers of Central Taiwan or the entire country; alternatively, a different nature of volunteers from other institutions can even be selected in order to perform comparisons and further research. 2. This study chose questionnaires as its survey method, focusing on quantitative data analysis. Future study can include qualitative data, such as interviews of related organizations, experts, or volunteers, in order to reflect and augment the quantitative data that is unable to reveal psychological aspects of the volunteers. 【Keywords】 Environmental volunteer, environmental protection, participation motivation, job satisfaction, organizational commitment
