Summary: | 碩士 === 逢甲大學 === 公共政策所 === 100 === The purpose of this study was to investigate the role transition and adaptation of female teachers on parental leave. It aims to understand the factors which influenced this group of female teachers on their decision of taking their parental leave, their difficulty and adaptation of role transition between teacher and mother, the meanings of this experience to them as individuals and their personal growth.
In order to gain a fuller understanding of the experiences of these ten female teachers on parental leave, the researcher conducted in-depth interviews for data collection and used constant comparison to analyze the data.
The findings are as follows:
1. Apart from the most significant ‘deciding factors’, some of my participants’ application for parental leave were affected by their ‘personal struggles and concerns’.
2. The difficulties and challenges experienced in their role transition and adaptation can be summarized as ‘The difficulties of role transition from a teacher to a mother’ and ‘Emotion changes through parental leave period’.
3. The teachers’ coping strategies and adaptation included ‘Expectations and perseverance’ and ‘Seeking social support and hope’.
4. After female teachers experienced role transitions, their growth and changes include ‘Increased self-awareness and a new perspective on life’, ‘Enhanced ability in facilitating harmonious teacher-parents interactions’, ‘Increased awareness of different roles and enhances adaptability’ and ‘Applications for parental leave should be encouraged’.
This study could make contribution to research related to parental leave and also provide a deeper understanding of the experiences of female teachers on parental leave.
