Convective heat transfer coefficient of the bed with different gaps between packed spheres is obtained in the present experiments. A forced flow is generated in a wind tunnel to blow the surface of the packed spheres which are coated with solid naphthalene. The mass loss of the bed is measured after a cycle of experimental time, and the convective heat transfer coefficient is then computed by the analogy between the heat and mass transfers. The convective heat transfer performance is evaluated with three ratios (i.e. 2, 1.5 and 1) of gap size between spheres to the sphere diameter in the packed bed.
