Then distributed generation is put into microgrid, which becomes the main source of microgrid's power supply. However, the protection technology of microgrid has faced considerable amount of challenges. In this article, we will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the international papers according to the fault detection methods of microgrid. Among the papers, the microgrid test report which was developed in CERTS of United States is the most complete one. However, it belongs to 480V single-point grounding system, not suitable for 380V multiply-grounded system in Taiwan. Therefore, it is necessary to devise a protection strategy, applicable to the 380V multiply-grounded system. This thesis will propose a process that suits microgrid fault detection of INER (Institute of Nuclear Energy Research), and it has a characteristic that automatically adjusts the fault detection threshold over time to achieve the scalability and adaptability of microgrid protection. In this article, we will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the international papers according to the fault detection methods of microgrid.
