Summary: | 碩士 === 經國管理暨健康學院 === 健康產業管理研究所 === 100 === This thesis mainly draws upon the researcher’s experiences as a mother raising a child with developmental delays. Adopting the research method of an autobiographical study of life course, the thesis utilizes the researcher’s personal experiences and reflections as its primary sources. It aims at exploring the mother’s experiences from the perspectives of Bronfenbrenner(1979)’s theory of one’s supporting ecological systems.
The findings of this study are listed below.
1. The researcher, as mother of a child with developmental delays, experienced the stages of denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance, and repeated depression as well as anger.
2. The inspection of the researcher’s ecological systems reveals that, when raising a developmentally delayed child, a mother will undergo multiple layers’ of pressures. If the mother’s ecological systems are well connected and supportive to her, she would be able to continuously devote herself to accompanying her child through the process of medical treatments. therapies, on condition that her.
3. While raising a child with developmental delays, a mother procures mechanisms of self-adjustment and personal growth, which enables her to deal with various pressures and discovering better ways to accommodate herself into the situation..
In the last part of the thesis, the researcher, according to her journey of raising her child, addresses expectations towards doctors, therapists, public sectors, hospitals and clinics. With the realizations and introspections obtained from the process of raising a developmentally delayed child, the researcher hopes to find a way to help the mothers who are in similar situation, to be able to accompany their children’s growth happily and healthily.
