Anxiety, mainly caused from fear for unknown, is often seen on patients who are prepared for surgery. Hence, the study aimed to explore and discuss any effects surgical education for patients with cardiac surgery have on degrees of anxiety. Systematic Review and Meta-analysis were both adopted in search for studies in topic of intervention as surgical education on patients receiving cardiac surgery in six kinds of electronic database such as PubMed, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Cochrane library, CEPS and Index to Taiwan Periodical Literature System; eventually, ten studies were included. The findings of these studies indicated that: (1) there were a total of 1,240 people as study sample. As indicated from seven studies, degrees of anxiety indeed may be declined by surgical education patients of cardiac surgery had. (2) Only one study was scored at 5 points, one scored at 0 point and the other six studies were scored from 1-2.5 points in quality appraisal. The reasons for “drop-out” had been depicted clearly in quality appraisal while only two literatures had clear picture of “Intention-to-treat”. (3) The Q-value of Heterogeneity test was 26.6, wherein I2=66.16% (T2=0.077), which showed Moderate Heterogeneity. (4) In the effect size pooling data, most of the Forest plot skewed to the right and random effect size (95%CI=0.319-0.758, Z-value=4.815, p<0.001), both indicated the integrated results were positive. The funnel plot was asymmetrical and the Egger’s test (t=4.529, p=0.001) showed publication bias; hence, the surgical education indeed declines degrees of anxiety patients with cardiac surgery have positively.
