Communications are no longer limited to the use of cell phones and telephones. Internet communication software based on VoIP technologies are becoming extremely popular for its low cost and availability. The purpose of this thesis is to design a multimedia system with video communication for the elderly. The system integrates the Linphone video communication software, web browser and video player. Using a simple interface operate, the elderly can easily communicate with their families or watching the movie. The system is implemented on the TI Pandaboard platform which is an ARM architecture. Two kinds of remote control methods are provided, including Bluetooth remote control and wireless keyboard and mouse respectively.
