This study aimed to discuss the conflict of multiple roles that teachers faced during pursuing further education, their corresponding solutions, and supportive current situation of the society. For male and female teachers who face the same pressure of multiple roles when pursuing further education, whether difference existed in the division of housework because of gender was analyzed, so as to provide information for someone who would like to pursue further education and government when drafting relevant policy. This study investigated four couples who pursue further education at the same time and eight males and females who pursue further education alone, all of them are teachers. A qualitative study, in-depth interview, was used; hopefully, the inner world and personal real feeling of the teachers who pursue further education could be understood thoroughly. After data analysis, the problems were discovered and relevant suggestions were proposed. The study result showed that further education was the professional growth and pursuit of self-accomplishment for the teachers; however, multiple-role conflict was the consequence of pursuing further education because of insufficient time and mental and physical efforts. Therefore, when facing this multiple-role conflict, teachers who pursue for further education should adjust their paces and psychological thought and seek sentimental and actual support from their families, colleagues, and friends, in order to gain a balance from multiple roles. This study found out that the role conflict of female teachers who pursue further education was more serious than the male teachers. The main reason was that, in traditional impression of gender role, female teachers who pursue further education were still mainly responsible for housework; as a result, under the multiple-role pressure of further education, work, and family, if the spouse was unable to support the family, then the role conflict for these female teachers would be more significant. Hence, under the demand of equal sex rights, the roles of husband and wife should be redefined, as in both husband and wife should be responsible to the housework so as to create a more harmonized and happier family life. 劉阿榮 2011 學位論文 ; thesis 184 zh-TW
