Summary: | 碩士 === 元培科技大學 === 企業管理研究所 === 99 === This research aims at exploring the global telecommunications services and telecommunications equipment industry from the viewpoint of dynamic capabilities of competitive advantage. Based on public financial report, the resource configuration model uses financial indicators that reflect the features of the business operations to infer the sources of competitive advantage. However, the resource configuration model is comparative static and thus does not indicate the firm’s dynamic capabilities to confront the variation of the industry. This thesis extends the research on resource configuration model by applying hierarchical non-linear growth model to examining the sources of dynamic competitive advantage. Using samples derived from the Compustat database, this research demonstrates how individual growth model can be used to investigate the dynamic competitive advantage of firms using the global telecommunications industry as a context. The results showed that the sources of competitive advantage in the global telecommunications services industry are not significantly different among firms. Instead, the economic value added (EVA) of the telecommunications carriers are related to VRND risks, higher EVA is associated with higher leverage. To confront shortening product cycles and growing time-to market pressures, many telecommunications companies implement the new IP-based services on an overlay network, thereby avoiding a large sunk cost. In addition, the competitive advantage of global telecommunications equipment providers are negatively related to application efficiency of capital and positively related to logistic management ability. Furthermore, the negative effect of the application efficiency of capital on competitive advantage is increasing over time but the negative impact is diminishing. These results depict that relative to the shortening life cycle of the telecommunications devices, the equipment providers recover their Application efficiency of capital inputs slowly. Only those providers with better logistic management can generate competitive advantage.
