Taiwan''s population is growing, people continue to demand for water is rising. The study of artificial floating island hydroponic planting methods moved the
phytoremediation system in the tank. To achieve reuse and recycling water purification of double effect, this study combined traditional livestock wastewater treatment with phytoremediation. The effluent quality from the farms by wastewater treatment facilities was so vulnerable to the effects of environmental temperature that it exceeded effluent standards. In this study, selected within the township of Yunlin County Linnei farms based experiment sites.
In batch experiment, the chemical oxygen demand and nitrate achieved 84.4±4.0%
and 31.6±11.9% removal rate in the first week. Total phosphorus was in negative
growth in the first week, removed 22.0±4.4% in the second week. Because of this
system could not significantly reduce the pollutants in the water after the third week, so the hydraulic retention time was set at 14 days.
In continuous experiments, the removal efficiency of chemical oxygen demand
was better in Coleus tank 3.1±43.6% per week and Licorice flag tank -3.5±20.2% per week. Tagetes lemmonii tank had better removal efficiency in suspended solids,ammonia nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen and total phosphorus, and the removal efficiency were -28.6±15.5%、1.8±2.5%、-108.5±168.3% and -33.5±27.9%.
The three kinds of plants (Coleus、Tagetes lemmonii and Licorice flag) in the
experiments were growth in good condition. There were no occurrences of death or the circumstances of wilt. The roots were so thick that suitable for using in artificial floating island of hydroponic systems.
