Summary:碩士 === 雲林科技大學 === 應用外語系碩士班 === 99 === The purpose of the study is to investigate the effects of picture books on multicultural education in the elementary school, especially focused on students’ attitudes toward foreign cultures and their classmates as foreign spouses’ children. The participants of the study consisted of 34 second-grade students in a public elementary school in Taichung County. The researcher used quasi-experimental method for the present study. An eight-week instruction of multicultural picture books was implemented on the second graders. The questionnaires were distributed to the participants before and after the instruction to see whether the instruction has positive influence on the participants. In addition to collecting data from questionnaires, classroom observations, the participants’ worksheets, and further semi-structured questionnaires were administered to obtain supplementary information. The results of the study are as follows. 1. Most students present very positive attitudes toward foreign spouses’ children, especially in the emotions and behavior tendency parts. 2. The application of picture books significantly has positive influence on the students’ attitudes, especially in the parts of cognition and behavior tendency. 3. Most students have positive attitudes toward foreign cultures.
