Regular physical activity and home rehabilitation exercises had been irrefutably evidenced to prevent the deterioration of chronic diseases and improve the physical fitness for the elderly people. However, the doubt of the health benefits and the dose-response relation of physical activity remains due to short of effective quantification method on the quantity measurement of physical activity. Recent technological advancements have made various ways of sensor monitoring possible for the elder’s physical fitness. In addition, motion sensor has many advantages, such as light weight, very small, and it could be worn in parts of body. In this study, we adopted motion sensor to obtain the motion signal of six upper-extremity exercises to assess the residential elder’s physical fitness. The signal pattern is analyzed to quantify the elder’s physical fitness through quantifying the home rehabilitation exercises. Through the quantification method for the elderly people, we create useful indicators on evaluating the activity level of the elderly people and provide appropriate exercise advises for better health administration.
