Knee OA treatment of nonpharmacologic including brace and lateral wedged to reduce knee adduction moment .Some study said rocker bottom shoe such like Masai Barefoot Technology(MBT) could reduce knee pain.Toe-out gait could change frontal plane knee moment lever then reduce knee adduction moment had been proved in pervious study.
The purpose of this study wanted to design a outward outsole rocker bottom combine with toe-out gait strategy to reduce knee adduction moment and knee pain in mild knee OA group. The experiment included level walking on 10m walk way and obstacle crossing and using VICON motion analysis system and AMTI force plate to collect data.
The result shown that knee adduction moment peak value decrease 11.8%,down form 2.75 to 2.42 Body weight%/Height(p=0.018) at later stance phase ,frontal knee moment lever decrease form 5.49 to 4.61 cm(p=0.041) at 80% stance phase, and toe-out change from 4.77 to -0.11 degree(p=0.000). The knee moment shown no significant difference during obstacle crossing.
The outward outsole rocker bottom could reduce knee adduction moment but didn`t reduce the knee pain . In the future, using muti-layer material on rocker bottom to reduce knee pain could be a goal.
