The relationships between the coach and athletes resemble a monarch and his or her subjects, a parent and his or her kid, and a teacher and his or her students. This qualitative case study aimed to explore archery athletes’ experiences in perceiving coaching leadership. Furthermore, the study described and interpreted the process and meanings derived from the experiences. The primary research question was what the archery athletes’ experiences in perceiving coaching leadership are. Based on the primary question, there were three secondary questions: 1. What were archery coaches’ characteristics and beliefs? 2. What were athletes’ experiences in perceiving archery coaches’ cognitions and transmissions of duties? 3. What were the meanings of these contents for archery athletes’ development? The research participants consisted of six archery athletes, three males and three females. The data collections included interviewing, observing, and collecting documents and records. On the other hand, the researcher wrote researcher’s journal throughout the study. Narrative analysis was used to analyze the data. Furthermore, for enhancing trustworthiness, the researcher utilized methods of member check, researcher’s position writing, crystallization, long-term participation, context understanding, peer briefing, and audit trail. The results of the study shower the archery athletes’ experiences in perceiving coaching leadership. The results were 1) Each coach owned his or her own unique description and interpretation of leadership; 2) The coaches with different past careers demonstrated different leading styles; 3) The coaches used same leading strategies towards athletes with different ages; 4) Basically, the coaches all had a strong vision of success towards their athletes; and 5) The athletes obtained deep influence from their first coaches. Therefore, there would be some problems in adaption to new coaches. The study suggested that preparation and on-duty training were very important for coaches to enhance their abilities in coaching.
