Ten junior high school swimmers (age 13 ± 0.5 years, height 160 ± 0.2 cm, weight 42 ± 4 kg), who have long-term training, were participated in this study. All subjects performed 90 min swimming (heart rate (HR): 160 ~ 180 beats/min) during the experiment. Autonomic nerve activity and Homeostasis Model Assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) were determined one-hour and 24-h after swimming training. In the results, we found that HOMA-IR values were significantly higher one-hour after swimming compared to 24-h after swimming (36±7.5 > 18.6 ± 1.2). Sympathetic activity of subjects was higher at one-hour recovery time point than 24-h recovery after training (1.08 ± 0.05 > 0.54 ± 0.25). However, parasympathetic activity was not significantly altered during recovery. In this study we found that insulin sensitivity was lower one-hour after swimming compared to 24-h recovery after swimming.
