This study aimed to explore the curriculum of Social Economics in elementary school’s Social Study textbooks and to analyze the implementation by current school teachers.
Content analysis and questionnaire survey are the methods for this research. Based on the content of conceptual economics, Kang Hsuan Educational is significantly less than Nani and Hanlin’s versions especially in the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 6th volumes. The survey showed that teachers did the best job on “basic economic concepts”, while they need to put more efforts on the concepts of “international economics”.
In teacher’s teaching, more than 60% of teachers are not agree with the teaching content. However, there are 80% of teachers believe that students would benefit by the acquisition of this learning subject. Most teachers agree with the ability targets and evaluations set by the content. More than 50% of teachers need to reinforce the knowledge of economics. And more than 70% of teachers agree that it would cause problems in teaching if the textbook was changed. The study suggested that Social Study teachers need to improve the professional knowledge on the subject and the textbooks play a very important role.
