Summary: | 碩士 === 東海大學 === 建築學系 === 99 === Rapid global urban development and industrial relocation has benefitted many forgotten and declining cities. These cities are often characterized as dirty and messy. This phenomenon occurs largely due to the fact that urban planning was not equipped with the flexibility to evolve and progress with the needs of growing urban population. Housing vacancy and the number of elderly people within the city have been on the rise. Dilapidated cities will continue to increase if such problems are continually ignored. Methods to refurbish and utilized idle and outdated spaces within old urban regions will become an important global issue. This thesis will address such issues and propose an implementable strategy relevant to various cities. This strategy has taken into account of the needs and realities of each city. The more factors that are taken into account, the more accurate the proposed urban-oriented strategy becomes. This will prevent errors that will cause further problems. New urban districts can thus be generated through land re-allocation and redefining land functions. This kind of action indirectly affects and changes the scale of urban space. Such change will transform the declining urban space to a livable residential city.
