This becomes a heavy burden for the whole society. To relieve the stress, they would look for other activities. That’s why the video game console “Wii” had become the market leader in home console sales since it was first released by Nintendo on September 14, 2006. The player becomes the master of a game through the wiimote. The character in the game can follow a player’s actions interactively.
Because of the advantages of safety and low-cost, virtual reality has attracted more attentions recently. It is also applied in various application domains. A low-cost, user friendly real-time real-person interactive system is developed in this thesis. Two players can play a table tennis sports game remotely over network. The system was based on a home-made microprocessor module. The infrared cameras and accelerometers were used to locate the racket and predict the directions and forces. The playing activity is not limited by the wires through the wireless transmission modules. A speaker was used to simulate the sound feedback effects of the paddle and ball hits. The easy-use front projection and ball drop-zone indicator were utilized to get better interactive effects. People are upset by the traditional VR environment might find this system interesting. Moreover, those who are willing to take exercises but shy to show themselves off, could still play with their remote partners interactively in their private common space over network.
