As in Wolfgang Iser’s reading theory, a translator occupies the position of the implied reader, which means the status of the implied reader and translation are parallel to each other. Like the implied reader, I aim to fill the gaps/blanks from the images in Williams’ text. Translation therefore is interpretation based on the interaction between the translator and the text. This thesis tries to emphasize that the reader’s (the translator’s) participation in the source text during the translation process. The main focus of this study is how the gaps/blanks are interpreted and translated and how the multi-meanings are concretized. Finally, this thesis attaches to the importance of the translator’s re-writing with limitation, and expounds upon the reader’s (the translator’s) comprehension and translation strategies.
