In this study, the leisure activities the respondents engaged in, their views on the value of leisure activities, and the value of new leisure activities were also examined. The results showed that the majority of respondents spent little time on limited leisure activities in Vietnam. After moving to Taiwan, the major leisure activity is to watch TV, which is similar to that of Taiwanese. The respondents defined "leisure" in terms of time and activities. For example, when they were asked what "leisure" meant to them, they answered "We went to ride bike on weekends." The leisure activities frequently mentioned were the ones that provided a relaxed and cheerful mood. In terms of personal values, many respondents believe that the family is important, and they also believe that family can share the leisure activities. However, the role of care givers sometimes conflicted with their need for leisure activities. The cultural values of Vietnam emphasize sacrifice, altruism, dedication, and being helpful for others. However, leisure activities are little related to these values. This may be due to these female married immigrants becoming a more vulnerable group in Taiwan, and spending most of their time to take care of their own family. According to the traditional Vietnamese culture, respect of elders is required. If the respondent lives with her husband’s parents and if the parents do not like to participant in leisure activities, often this would indirectly constrain her participation in leisure activities. This study provides useful information for government to plan courses and counseling services for the new female married immigrants. 高立學 2011 學位論文 ; thesis 110 zh-TW
