碩士 === 慈濟大學 === 社會工作學系碩士班 === 99 === This is a story about my learning process of striding over nursing to social work. The research method is narrative inquiry. Triple aspects, including time, space and circumstances interaction were framed to state my story. I was ignorant when I entered social work field. I developed my story along the social work learning process. The research purpose is to narrate what I see from the outdoor of social work, to seek the appearance of social work, and to find out the answer of “what is social work?”, “Is social work like this?” and “What does social work do?”. The story began from my nursing professional helping career. I tried to display how nursing training influenced my social work learning process. In the process of learning and through the internship as a psychiatry social worker, I gradually accumulated the questions about social work. Through retrospecting those experiences, the new understanding of social work was generated. Then finally glimpsed the appearance of social work. Those experiences include what I’ve learned from social work academic training at the graduate school, what I’ve seen social work practice from field study of welfare public department and the psychiatry department of hospital, and what I practice social work from the community care program for psychiatry patient. There is no big difference between the social work’s textbook and my realization of social work. That shows social work as a helping profession, helps people adapt the society and develop potential. However, it also comprises meanings of both care and control. The artistry of social work is that every social worker represents different kinds of practice. Social worker has to realize the value of social work by herself/himself. On account of social worker’s practice principle like acceptance, believe in every kind of possibility and the uniqueness of people, I could accept and appreciate myself, further then appreciate the preciousness of mental illness person. Thus, standing on the current position which faces the future, I plan to put myself in to the psychiatry department again to pursue my social work career. The journey is just beginning.
