| Summary: | 碩士 === 慈濟大學 === 宗教與文化研究所 === 99 === The purpose of the study is to discuss the formation from the beginning of this newly emerging church, Ohfamily Confutopia Association or Confutopia Association. The method of this research in this paper is field study which includes participant observation, in-depth interview, video record and photo-based record, history of the society, and diary of older generations’ believes as well as relevant literatures.
Confutopia Association was established by some under-graduate and graduate students in a iron-sheet roofing house; leading by a Korean Rev named Kong Min Sik. The way and mode of preaching, the new concept of teachings and practices, and the structure of the society are different from general churches. The author learnt about the forming of this society from the development of it, the bibliography of Rev. and his wife, by living together with the followers and also comparing the life of association with the Sangha.
Under the context of social and culture in religion,New Religious group in the past has received strange and curious eyes or rejection. The main reason for this was it carried mystics’ elements. However, the author finds that Confutopia Association has portrayed a better understanding and flexible attitude towards other religions and ordinary people, which is different from traditional churches that are associated with conservative and religious exclusivity. Rev. Kong emphasizes: “In order to share the great love of God to everyone, therefore we need to practice the spirit of true love in hoping to achieve Confutopia and Ohfamily”.
Rev. Kong includes the concept of “:God loved the world” in guiding the church; followers in the church also apply his teachings in daily life. Hence, whoever is new to the church will be engulfed with love and through the variety of fellowship activities; the true love spirit will be instilled in the community life and they learn unity in love from each other as well. This paper should spur us on to change, we need to take on a new look from the religion stereotypes and grant a more objective, positive in-depth research in this study.
