Summary: | 碩士 === 慈濟大學 === 公共衛生學系碩士班 === 99 === Parent report measures might be the most important information for the assessment of early detection of child developmental delay. Hence, the knowledge of normal development of children is critical for those providing care for children. The aim is to examine the caregivers’ knowledge of child development and identifying the influencing factors associating with his/her knowledge. We enrolled 413 participants who had experienced taking care of a child of younger than 2 years of age. Participants completed a 44-item child development questionnaire consisiting of gross motor, fine motor, language, social and cognitive development, as well as the basic demographic characteristics. We propose two scoring formulas based on the clinical diagnosis criterion to evaluate the distribution of caregivers’ knowledge of child development. Stepwise proportional odds model was used to investigate factors related to the knowledge and tolerance time. The results showed that most caregivers had good knowledge of child development, especially better for gross motor and language development. Most caregivers were lack of knowledge of childhood development occurred under age 6-month. The crucial
influencing factor were the number of the age of the children and the age of the youngest child. Other Factors affecting caregivers’ knowledge of child development were sex, family income, and education. The clinicians or health agencies should help to enhance the knowledge of caregivers of early childhood
development to avoid the delay in diagnosis of developmental delay.
