Questionnaire survey was adopted in this study, and the content of the study tools includes “teachers’ personal information”, “measurement of leisure activity participation”, and “ measurement of leisure obstacles”. The subjects of this study are special education teachers from grade school, junior high school, and senior high school in Tainan city (former Tainan county); 487 teachers in total. 250 questionnaires were sent out, and 242 were returned and valid, with a 96.8% valid returned rate. The data was analyzed by the statistics software SPSS17.0 (Chinese version). The following findings are obtained by using descriptive statistics, single factor ANOVA and Scheffe post hoc comparison method. 1. Special education teachers of grade school and high school participate in “ entertaining leisure activity” most frequently, followed by “educational leisure activity”, “ social leisure activity”, “sports leisure activity”; “ artistic leisure activity” has the lowest participating rate. 2. Special education teachers consider that “ structural obstacle” is the most significant factor followed by “interpersonal obstacle” while “individual’s inner obstacle” is the least significant factor. 3. Different “personal background” affects special education teachers’ participation of leisure activity. 4. Among background variables, all of the variables did not reach the significant level except for the factor of “gender” . Our study will propose related discussions and suggestions according to our study result, in order to provide reference and information to teachers, schools, and administrative agencies regarding leisure activity arrangement.
