At the review, surface properties are mostly caused by the unstable energy during discharge processing. Therefore, many studies for the discharge processing, focus on improving the coordination of mechanism. Then develop the optimal solution, which could be improved the good rate of small molds and precision industrial manufacturing. In this experiment, the single arc discharge machining system should be self-designed. In terms of hardware, transistors and capacitors are used as the discharge circuit architecture, linear slider and stepping motor are used in the motion system. The integration of single-axis motion system and discharge system, through the computer serial port (RS-232 protocol), by using Visual Basic as the human-machine interface. The design and development of micro-electrical discharge machining system is based on the discharge waveform. So, discharge energy and suppression of poor discharge waveform could be control by adjusting discharge time. This study is not only for the improvement of mechanism and circuit systems, but also control the power source with using compound transistor. By actual fabrication, this system can produce & control the single electric arc. And observing the influence of specimen due to change the current、voltage and electrode spacing. Then making further analysis after measuring the depth and diameter of discharge-trace, material removal rate and surface appearance. The better machining efficiency is cone-shaped electrode during experiment comparing with cylindrical electrode. Also, it’s easier to produce single arc under voltage 40 volt through the testing repeatedly.
