The aim of this study were to find out the impact of control of risk factors for workplace stress to work engagement, using occupational burnout as mediated variable, and to analyze the difference of risk factors for workplace stress, occupational burnout and work engagement among different backgrounds of guard officers. First, this study was based on extensive literature review. Second, item analysis, validity, and reliability analysis were carried out, and the remained 71-item questionnaire was administered. Then, data was analyzed. Finally, the conclusion and suggestion were presented. The sample consisted of guard officers of each correctional organization in Agency of Corrections, Ministry of Justice. Totally 541 questionnaires were distributed to 20 Agencies of Corrections. After invalid responses were eliminated, the valid questionnaires were 511, and valid response rate was 94.45%.
The major findings of this study revealed as follows:
1. Gender, age, educational background, marriage, duty mode, job position, seniority, organs position, and categories of employees showed significant differences on control of risk factors for workplace stress. Age, job position, seniority, organs position showed significant differences on occupational burnout. Age, marriage, duty mode, job position, seniority of employees had significant differences on work engagement.
2. The control of risk factor for workplace stress had a significant negative correlation with occupational burnout. The control of risk factor for workplace stress had a significant negative correlation with work engagement. Occupational burnout had a significant negative correlation with work engagement.
3. The control of risk factor for workplace stress and occupational burnout could significantly predict work engagement, among which "role" and "work-related burnout" had the best significant power to predict.
4. Occupational burnout had partial mediation effect on the relationship between control of risk factors for workplace stress and work engagement and related dimensions.
Finally, according to the result of the research, suggestions were provided respectively to the following researchers and competent authority as references of work engagement and the related researches.
