There is a growing demand on multimedia applications for such a wireless network. Hence, it is needed to develop a mechanism for the quality of the service (QoS) to support different type of multimedia applications, such as voice, video, documents and Web traffic, etc. In the thesis, we pay attention on the QoS of wireless LAN. Our main motivation comes from the fact that IEEE 802.11e EDCF never discusses the queuing issue in a node with multiple services locally. We first propose priority random early detection (PRED) algorithm, which integrated random early detection (RED)with IEEE 802.11E EDCF. Our proposed PRED algorithm can provide good differentiation among different access categories. Moreover, compared with the usage of the traditional EDCF strategy with different priorities in a node, PRED can support high throughput and low delay for high priority packets. However, in order to allow the use of channel can have fairness, we proposed weighted fair queuing in EDCF (WEDCF) algorithm, which combines weighted fair queuing (WFQ) with IEEE 802.11e EDCF. This algorithm not only supports the concept of differentiating ACs with different priorities but also guarantees the fair allocation of each ACs according to their relative weights. We propose a mechanism for different priority packets to be allocated according to the weight proportional to the access channel to achieve the principle of equitable distribution channels.
