The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between the coaches’ leadership behavior perceived by HBL division A basketball players and their performance; the study was also aimed to explore the relationship between the team cohesion and their performance.
The subjects for the present study included 391 male and female HBL division A basketball players in 2010 academic year. The questionnaire, “The Questionnaire of the relationships between the coaches’ leadership behavior perceived by HBL division A basketball players and the team cohesion” was used as a research tool in this study. And then the descriptive statistics, independent sample t-test, ANOVA, and Scheffé post hoc comparison were employed to analyze these gathered questionnaires. The findings of the present study were summarized as follows: 1. The Male players got the significantly higher scores than the female players in the “training and guidance factor”.2. The players trained under 3 years perceived significantly more the rewards and appreciation of the acts from coach than the players trained above 6.1-9 years did.3. The players trained 24.1-30 hours weekly perceived significantly more the training and instruction behavior from coaches than the players trained 15-19 hours weekly.4. In the team cohesion, the male players got significantly higher scores than the female players in the “interpersonal relationship factor”.5. The starting lineup got significantly higher scores than the bench players in the “attractiveness factor”.6. There was significant difference between the players trained 6.1-9 years and the players trained 3.1-6 years in the “interpersonal relationship factor” as well as in the “attractiveness factor”. 7. There was positive relationship between the “interpersonal relationship factor” In the team cohesion and the players’ basketball performance
