People have come to realize that urban cities should move in the direction of eco-friendly and sustainable developments and building metropolitan parks would play an important role in the movement. In the past, the planning and design of metropolitan parks in Taiwan emphasized on the environmental aesthetics and recreation demands and lacked the eco-friendly concept of sustainability. Moreover, follow-on maintenance and management cost the governments’ resources. The means to promotion of the eco-friendly and sustainable concepts in metropolitan parks is a crucial task. The research results indicate that the park users have high degrees of agreement for the ecological conservation, hygiene and security, scenic beauty and social psychology in the metropolitan park and degrees of agreement for the economic benefit. In terms of the park users’ attitude toward the metropolitan forest park, they have high degrees of agreement in the goal setting, planning and design and management mechanism and degrees of agreement in the economic costs. In terms of the park users’ intentions for support the metropolitan forest park, they show high degrees of agreement. In addition, the park users’ age, educational background, length of stay and companion have impacts on their perception for the function of the metropolitan park. The park users’ age, educational background, marriage status, career and frequency of use have impacts on their attitude toward the metropolitan forest park. The park users’ personal characteristics have no impact on their support will for the metropolitan forest park. Based on the results, the government is suggested to re-think the park’s function and position. If a metropolitan forest park is to be built in the future, it must be built with people’s close cooperation to overcome the difficulties in regulation, finance and profession technique. Moreover, the planners and designers environment of the metropolitan park are suggested to reflect the concepts for the planning and design of the metropolitan park. That the idea of follow-up management and maintenance must be brought forward in the planning and design proposal while the concept of sustainable management must be adapted. Shu-Chun L.
