碩士 === 世新大學 === 經濟學研究所(含碩專班) === 99 === Estimates of potential GDP level can be used to observed the long-term changes of the economic output, therefore we can use potential GDP to estimate the overall economic expansion gap or contraction gap. The potential GDP is an abstract conception, however it be measured by the econometrics methods. The estimation of Taiwanese potential GDP is the main purpose of this paper. We use the ordinary least squares (OLS), vector autoregression (VAR) and the HP filter to estimate Potential GDP. We find that the result from the OLS method is relatively stable than the output resulted from HP filter.
