Summary: | 碩士 === 世新大學 === 傳播管理學研究所(含碩專班) === 99 === The trends and changes in the TV world lead viewers from just three channels through the era of cable TV to wireless TV. Today’s media is controlled by TV ratings and digital convergence which results in big changes in news editing and production.
Taiwan’s government approved cable TV in 1993. From that point, more and more channels emerged. In less than 20 years, over 100 channels can be found over cable TV in Taiwan. Among all of the channels, 6 are fully dedicated to news reporting: ERA, ETTV, CTITV, FTV, ISET and TVBS-N. When speaking of journalists, people tend to only remember anchorpersons and reporters but forget a group of hard-working people who are also closely related to news editing and production, namely the editors. In terms of researches done on this profession with which few people are familiar, most targeted newspaper editors. Only a handful of them were based on TV news editors.
“Participant observation” and “in-depth interviewing” were adopted in this research as the main research methods. With the help of 7 news editors, the researcher investigates their role in the news field and the status of news editing and production process. Also, the researcher discusses how to break out from the fate of being a dependent player, how to handle self-cognition and recognize one’s value and how to keep being professional while facing the impacts from digital convergence and the pressure brought by TV ratings.
As a current senior TV news editor, the researcher aims at probing deeper into the topic with the hope of opening another window on the future of TV news editor
