Description
Summary:碩士 === 東吳大學 === 德國文化學系 === 99 === Since human beings exist on earth, the relations between humans and nature has been destined to be inseparable. The description of nature in literature nearly develops in parallel with history. Besides, from the myth, the fable, the poetry, the novel to the modern literature, the nature always plays an indispensable role. However, until the “ecology issue” appears in literature works, the role of nature is no more like as before. The literature no longer maintains the harmonious relations with the nature. But, the appearance of “ecology issue” is not without any reasons. It implies the innermost fear and anxiety of humans, makes people to examine the destruction brought by the civilization. In the introduction of this thesis, it is going to clarify two terms - “the ecology”, and the “ecology literature”. At first, I will examine the reason for the emergence of the “ecology literature” and give a general description of the German literature about “ecology”. And then, I will move on to analyze three German “ecology literature” works - Wilhelm Raabe’s Die Innerste and Pfisters Mühle, Franz Hohler’s Der neue Berg and Die Steinflut, and Gertrud Leutenegger’s Kontinent. This thesis could help to realize the destruction of nature caused by the Industrial Revolution through the perspectives of “ecology literature” works. These works can be viewed as an epitome of the western industrial society with high technology and civilization. Through them, people could introspect the relations between humans and the nature, and the way to treat nature. Furthermore, it can raise people’s attention to the environmental protection.
